What Folks Say!   Jim & Lynda,  I want to tell you how much I enjoyed the Fly Fishing school at the Anchor B Ranch. I was impressed by how both of you were able to address the various experience levels of the participants, making it rewarding and fun for all. The Oldman River, Anchor B Ranch and its staff made for an unforgettable experience.

What More Folks Say!  "I want to take this opportunity to thank you again for the outstanding weekend we had at the Anchor B Ranch attending your school. Our days at the school were very full and enriching. I think I learned more about how to cast, various fishing techniques, how to read the water and flies than I ever could have imagined possible in one weekend.  We covered a lot of ground and yet you always found a way to keep each new topic fresh and interesting.  Your energy throughout the day was amazing and your passion for the sport is undeniable.  As well, you took a group with very diverse skills and experience and managed to keep the material challenging for the more experienced of us and yet not overwhelming for those who hadn’t fished a lot. That was no small accomplishment!! But even more special was your patience and time you took with each person individually to help them with their own challenges and questions. Both of you truly have a gift for making people feel welcome and comfortable despite their fishing level.

"What made this weekend even more magical was the beauty and serenity of the fabulous Anchor B Ranch.  This is truly a special place. The velvet hills, blue Alberta sky and a broad valley with inviting reaches of river to fish creates that peaceful feeling that draws all of us to this sport.

"All and all this was a wonderful time and each of us feels richer for the experience. As Lynda wrote in my copy of Jim’s book that I was given, “The world of fly fishing leads to great friends. We are blessed by your friendship”. I think that pretty much sums up our weekend! Thanks again."

The Anchor B Ranch

Ever wonder if there are any places left where the good old days are still in progress?  Is it possible to find solitude on great water?

Alberta’s proximity to Montana causes it to be overlooked by fly fishers, but both its fishing and its geography are stunning.  From the headwaters in the Canadian Rockies to the lower prairie reaches, there are over 200 miles of grade A fly-fishing water in the Oldman River drainage.  All this water, and all the wild rainbows, cutthroats and bull trout that live in it are available to guests of the Anchor B Ranch.

The Anchor B is a 2600 acre working cattle ranch straddling the Oldman River in southwestern Alberta. Anchor B guests choose from an extensive fishing menu that includes dry fly fishing for cutthroats, technical fishing for fussy trout on the Crowsnest River, a driftboat trip on the lower Oldman tailwater for big rainbows, or a day-trip to the great waters of southeastern British Columbia.

The fishing around the Anchor B is similar to that in Colorado or southwestern Montana, with one huge difference: the number of fishermen.  At the Anchor B, solitude is part of the equation.

The ranch accommodates a maximum of eight guests, which means they won’t be tripping over each other while fishing, and they will receive plenty of attention after a long day on the water. The Anchor B believes that a perfect day consists of great fishing in a spectacular setting, followed by an evening of first class food and refreshment.  For a fly fisher, what could be better?

The Anchor B experience is not so much about fishing in a different place as it is about fishing in a different time – a time when the choices were expansive, the fish plentiful, and the fishermen few. Welcome to the good old days.
